I dont imagine there were too many people with that exact name around - so quite probably the same person.

You might possibly be able to confirm with details of the passenger list.. although these can be quite basic. If he ended up in Australia then maybe details from his marriage/death cert might help confirm a connection, since his parents names are shown in the extracted record on FamilySearch :

  Name: Blayny Grier Poynton
  birth date: 27 Jun 1875
  birthplace: Co.Roscommon
Parents : Gilbert Poynton & Mary Grier

Thank you Shane,

He didn't even up in Australia, however i can not find him on the 1901 census and would like to know if that is why. He is on the 1911 census after being married for 1.9years.

looks like he got married in London in 1909 - so maybe he was in England somewhere in 1901 ?

i have had a look on the 1901 for England and can not find a match, maybe he traveled back from Australia to London which is where he met his wife Amelia.

A Blayney Poynton (age 25) arrived in Sydney (from London, England on "Oruba" in Feb.1901.
In 1903 Blayney Greer Poynton, a soldier, was at Fort Lytton
In 1905 Blayney Grier Poynton, Queensland

Possibily same as-
Blayney Grier Poynton m.1909 London, England
died 1949 Norfolk, England

The Australian dates (Feb.1901-at least 1905) would explain why you haven't found him in 1901 census.

Any idea where in Ireland he was from/was born? May have found something in addition to Australian sightings and a location in Ireland would help confirm it really is the same person.

He listed roscommon on his 1911 and this was also the location on his christening record.
