James Scott Henderson from Hawick help please

I am looking for  birth of James Scott Henderson (confectioner) born about 1831 in Hawick with father James Henderson, weaver, and mother ? Kerr (according to his death certificate).  He is my 2nd great grandfather.

His hospital admission record also says he was born in Hawick.

In 1851 census transcription he appears as John Henderson, confectioner, born in Hawick about 1831 and lodging in Canongate.  (at no other time is he called John)

He married Jessie Smith in 1851 in Canongate, Edinburgh (no mention of his parents on marriage record).

I've searched Scotland's People and LDS and Scotland's family for his birth/baptism without success.  I did find a James Henderson marrying a Margaret Kerr in Melrose in 1825 which is a possibility for his parents.

Are there apprenticeship records for Roxburgh available?

Maybe the 1851 entry for the John Henderson confectioner might not be your James but a possible younger brother?

Nope, can't be a younger brother John. That John shows with eldest brother Walter in 1851:

Elizabeth Henderson 7 Months
John Henderson 18 brother mason, b. Hawick
George Henderson 8 brother b. Hawick
Williamina Oliver 21, servant

Ros, can't see much else at this stage - with James father showing as a weaver, unlikely this farming family is connected to your James
