Hello,

My Great Great Uncle Thomas Smith served in the 30th Somerset Light Infantry in the Second World War, and we have a photo of one of his comrades which we would like to reunite with its rightful owners.

The note on the back reads Norman Kilshaw, 294 London Road, Romford, Essex.

I believe he is also in a group photograph which I will be uploading shortly.

If you are Mr Kilshaw's relative, or if you know of his family, please get in touch - we would love his family to have this photograph.

Thankyou for reading,

Alice

Hi Alice,  it would be great if you could find his family and pass this photo on.  Have you tried Googling his name?  There is an obituary that comes up for Norman Charles Kilshaw in Derbyshire that could possibly be him.

Hello,

Yes I saw the obituary, and a few Kilshaw's came up in the telephone directory in the area - I just wasn't sure of how to go about/whether to contact them... I personally would be very happy if someone tracked me down to give me a piece of family history, but some people may be suspicious... Do you think it would be O.K. to try this? If not I guess I could try electoral rolls/local paper if this doesn't work?

Norman Kilshaw marrried Olive Doreen Smith in 1949, and had three children, Elain, Steven and Shirley.

Olive died in 2005.  The Son Steven died in 1998

Shirley married John E Cook and Elaine married Raymond Ivory with all events being listed in Essex

Ive sent you a pm with what I believe is Shirley Cooks current address, according to the 2011 Electoral roles

Fantastic news!

Thankyou so much englandphil for your help!

I have just received an email from Mr. Kilshaw's daughter, and will be sending the original photograph to her shortly. Mr. Kilshaw was just 16 or 17 when he joined up, having added a few years to his age. Until now they did not have any pictures of him during the War.

I mentioned RootsChat in my response to her as I thought she should know how fantastic this site is! Myself and my family are so happy that the photograph will now be reunited with his family.
