98th Reg. of Foot in Athlone 1871 ?
« on: Friday 17 June 11 14:13 BST (UK) »
Hi, I  wonder if anyone can tell me with whether the 98th Reg.of Foot, was based in Athlone in Feb.1871?  I have found what I think is my Gt.Gt.grandparents church marriage extract (but no civil reg. found yet).  I know this regiment , later the 64th 2nd North Staffordshire reg.was later in Jamaica,India and Malta, (courtesy of census and a couple of birth certs.  If I could confirm that the reg. was in or near Athlone in 1871 I would feel happier that I have the correct marriage.

I have also left a post on the Athlone Forum.

Fingers crossed someone knows :)

While someone with Co. Westmeath connections may have come across details of army postings in the town, I think you might have better chance of finding details for this regiment on the Armed Forces board here on RootsChat.
