Arrival of Frank and Lucy EASTHOPE Vic late 1800s
« on: Tuesday 21 June 11 05:17 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for details for the arrival in Melbourne of Frank Wilmot Homer EASTHOPE and his wife Lucy.

The last record I have of them in the UK is the 1881 census, and then not again until Frank died in St Kilda in 1902.  They lived at 227 Dandenong Road, St Kilda at the time of his death.

Frank was born in SA in 1844. Lucy (Holder) was born in Cheltenham in 1849.

I've tried to find them in passenger lists without success.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where I might be able to find them in passenger lists, or in directories that would indicate when they arrived.

Tks
Bayley family of Westmorland (Casterton/Kirkby Lonsdale) and Lancashire (Barton, Birkdale) during the period 1750 - 1911.
Willan family of Westmorland and Lancashire.
Easthope family - mostly Gloucestershire/London
Jeffords

Franks' Will is available online for viewing.

Death is 1901 not 1902.

Hi there,

Perhaps there were several by that name  ??? or perhaps a later return voyage to Vic  on the Oruba of 1895 ...

From the 1892 Sands Directory for Melbourne (entries needed to be lodged by around Oct of each year prior for publication processing purposes)
Frank Easthope, Church St BTN ... (perhaps that would be Brighton, but I am not sure)

From 1893 Sands Directory for Melbourne.
Frank Easthope at 189 William Street West, Hawksburn.  (near the right of way for Motherwell St)

:)  You mention that Frank was born in SA in 1844 .... would that be South Australia or South Africa or somewhere else please....

:)  Have you considered if Sth Australia that he may have travelled overland rather than by sea to arrive into Melbourne?

Cheers,  JM

It seems Frank moved house without notifying the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works ;D  However the news snippet gives you another address where the family lived in Melbourne.

Oh well found Cando ...

So the Board got their 1/- as a nominal fine, and the court got 7/6 ...  now that's not nominal, ... may I speculate that perhaps he paid the fine and left the costs to be paid by the Board...  ;D

Cheers,  JM

No entry in the 1888 Victoria Post Office Directory

Most unusual for a wife to be listed in the directory when her husband is living.  Had they separated?

Sands & McDougall Directory
1896
EASTHOPE Mrs Lucy  46 Fawkner Street, South Yarra

1897
EASTHOPE Mr Frank  Station Street, South Yarra

1898
EASTHOPE Mr Frank W H, Sculptor  Gipps Street, East Melbourne  [This address matches the newspaper snippet]

Nothing 1899, 1900

1904
EASTHOPE Mrs Lucy  169 Gipps Street, East Melbourne

Lucy's burial record at Karakatta Cemetery
http://www2.mcb.wa.gov.au/NameSearch/details.php?id=KC00001474

Lucy appears on the WA 1910 Electoral Roll with  Isabel and perhaps this is the death of Fred listed on the shipping record.

EASTHOPE Alfred Dugmore
Parents Frank W H and Mother Lucy
District Perth 79 years   1958  Reg#388

EASTHOPE Lucy
District Swan  1943  Reg#137
