At the end of the 19th century one of my female ancestors by the name of Dillon probably carried an illegitimate child. I know the family put her away in a home run by nuns. She would have lived in Pollerton or Pellerton road in County Carlow. Would anyone know the name of the institution or convent which accepted "fallen women" ! Apparently the unfortunate young girl had to stay in the convent unless a member of the family came to let her out.
The story goes in the case of my poor ancestor that she begged her sister later in life to come and release her and she refused! Shame on her.
She was reported as being sick and then as mentally deficient to account for the disappearance. She may have died in the early thirties or late twenties. Do any of the convents have online records of the inmates?
