Grave Inscription - Elizabeth MITCHELL
« on: Thursday 23 June 11 04:52 BST (UK) »
I have a received Gravestone Inscription for Co. Derry which is of interest to me as it could be my great grandfather's first wife.
"Elizabeth Mitchell, Date of Death: 2 Jul 1876, Age: 41, Address: Orchard Row, Parish/District: Templemore Co. Derry, Graveyard:Derry City Cemetery, Place of Birth Magilligan."
However when I checked "Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958" I could not find a corresponding record. I would like to find out a bit more about this burial. Any ideas please on how I should proceed.     Beth
PS I live in New South Wales, Australia so am unable to visit cemeteries etc

Did a quick check and can't find her death yet either but there is a Mitchell family in Orchard Row in 1911- Catholic-

Same family in 1901-

And these Mitchells in 1901- Church of Ireland- 2 of the children born South Wales-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks aghadowey for the links to the Orchard Row Mitchells in the 1901 and 1911 Census. I have found my great grandparents and family in both Census, but didn't think to check the street where they first lived.

From birth and death certificates William Mitchell (1st family) was born Orchard Foyle Road Derry, Elizabeth his mother died Orchard Row. (2nd family of James) James born 1879 12 Orchard Row Derry, George born in 1884 24 Ivy Terrace and died 1885 Foyle Road, Marie (May) born 1889 43 1/2 Foyle Road as were the three younger children. 1901 Census this Mitchell family were living in Carlisle Road and in 1911 at Figary, Fahan Donegal.

Hi Bob
Thank you so much for the MITCHELL burial details from https://www.derrystrabane.com/cemeteryrecords - I have found it a wonderful resource as it filled in so many of the gaps in my family - infants I knew nothing about and the fact that parents names were recorded, took me back another generation. It is a great resource and many thanks for your help. James Mitchell (1844-1919) whose obituary you sent to me many years ago, had five siblings who all went to USA and I discovered that James younger sister Catherine married James SNELL  (brother of Elizabeth SNELL). Cheers from Beth
