Come on you Dubs. Show Neppy some real Irish hospitality. Do a bit of research and find some information about * and his Sherry ancestors. There were families with this surname in Dublin at the time of Griffiths Valuation (1846-64) in the city. The Dublin Valuation was recorded during the years 1848-51. The list of names includes several men by the name of *. This information is probably very useful but Neppy would appreciate information about the hundred year period between then and the 1940s. I will throw down the gauntlet here. We could have some friendly cross border rivalry between Roots Chat members in the north of Ireland and you guys who live further south. A friend has invited me to meet her in Dublin for coffee. I have some other friends and relations in Dublin and could look them up. I could also look up information on your doorstep while I am there. This seems a much better proposition than drinking Irish coffee importers dry of coffee.  8)  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php

I am trying to find information regarding * Sherry who
originated from the Dublin area and was working in the Marsden area of Huddersfield in 1944/45.  I believe he was working as a laborer.  I have no information as to wether he returned to Ireland and remained in England.

After much searching I am so far drawing a blank any information or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Hello neppy,

You won't get any Irish Census records which might show * for another few years ... Irish Electoral Rolls might be a possiblity but that may be difficult, if not impossible, without an address. The elections took place in 1923, 1927 (Jun), 1927 (Sep), 1932, 1933, 1937, 1938, 1943, 1944, 1948, 1951, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1969, 1973, 1977, 1981, 1982 (Feb), 1982 (Nov), 1987, 1989, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007  and By-elections.

Click here for the contact address of the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and Evening Herald as a letter to the Editor of one of these papers may produce a result.
