Gt Gt Grandfather disappeared, any help please.
« on: Friday 24 June 11 14:01 BST (UK) »
Hi Rootchatters,

Can someone please help, I am trying to find out what happened to my Gt Gt Grandfather Joseph Bayles Winter. I have found his last known whereabouts as getting married for a second time being registered at Pontypridd in 1867 to a Eliza Youd. He was born in Merthyr Tydfil in the mid 1830's and married for the first time in 1861 to a Francis Joseph.
After many searches now at a total loss, any help from all you experienced Rootchatters I would be greatly thankful.

Retpara.

Hi Cardiff,
Thanks for the interest shown as you have helped me in the past also. Sorry I have'nt got a marriage certifcate only info from FreeBMD.
I was hoping with slightly unusal names they might have been located before applying for the certificate. The only info that I have was they originally was living in Merthyr Tydfil and I believe that after his first wife Francis died at a very young age, he possibly moved to the Tonypandy area with his two sons, one of these being my Gt Grandfather, as my Grandfather was born in the Tonypandy area, before moving to Glyntaff. Therefore I should imagine that my Gt Gt Grandfather also possibly lived within the Tonypandy area as I believe Tonypandy also comed under the Pontypridds registrar's area.
Many thanks once again,
Retpara.

(P.S. Sorry his two son's were Thomas and George I believe there was a daughter born in the second marriage but no name. Thomas was my Gt Grandfather who married an Elizabeth Lloyd at Porth in 1884 and was living in llwynypia, Rhondda).

Hi Cardiff,
Many thanks, yes you are correct Thomas was one of Joseph's sons and it's Joseph I am trying to trace, as you can see the Joseph shown was Thomas's son which was my Grandfather.
Cheers,
Retpara.

Hi Cardiff,
Once again you are correct these are the two brothers, it seems it was in the early 1880's they moved to the Rhondda, where Thomas was married to Elizabeth and my grandfather Joseph junior was born, before moving to Glyntaff, where in 1894 the two brothers were both killed in the Albion Pit Disaster. This is where I lose contact of their father.
Cheers,

Hi Cardiff,
Sorry I think I might have misled you, from Thomas down I have the full history of the family. It is Thomas's father Joseph I have lost. I have him on the 1861 census RG9 Piece 4055 Folio 121 Pg 49  in Merthyr Tydfil where his name is shortened to Joseph Bayles without the Winter, but his full name was Joseph Bayles Winter, living with his wife Francis within the next two years Thomas and George was born and then in 1866 Francis died. The next record I find is Joseph getting married to an Eliza Youd within the Pontypridd area in 1867. So rightly or wrongly I assumed this is why the two brothers followed to live within the Pontypridd registrars area.
Hope this helps.
