James Goldfinch baptism abt 1819 Reading
« on: Friday 24 June 11 15:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone has any idea where I may find the baptism for James Goldfinch who was born abt 1819, Reading.

He is in Petham with him family in the 1841-71 censuses, occupation Baker and he gives place of birth as Reading and Berkshire.

I have looked on the IGI and family.search but to no avail.

Thanks in anticipation ...

Hi Westwood1,
I know you say you've looked on the IGI and Family Search in Berks,
but the IGI does show an extracted entry for  James Goldfinch bapt. 15-8-1819 Caversham, Oxford. S/O Thomas & Charlotte.

   "Batch No.C033361 Dates   1810 - 1859 Source Call    0095223     Film    6903921"

Caversham is /or was, in my time of living there,  a suburb of Reading on the River Thames.

Hope this helps.

Nice one Alan I didn't think of Caversham - from the registers

1817 May 25th Mary d/o Thomas & Charlotte Goldfinch - fellmonger
1819 Aug 15 James s/o Thomas & Charlotte Goldfinch - fellmonger

then oddly - the only other mention of Goldfinch

1821 Nov 4 Thomas s/o Thomas & Martha Goldfinch - carpenter

there is a marriage on the IGI

Thomas Goldfinch to
CHARLOTTE HUMPHREYS
29 JAN 1810      Cookham, Berkshire

Hi

Alan - many thanks for this; I had come across this yesterday and wondered whether it would be relevant so thanks for clarifying the area as I am not familiar with this at all.

Debbie - thanks for your information;

Thanks to both of you for your assistance.

Possible Census for CHARLOTTE?;
1851 Census
No7 All Saints Lane,
Canterbury All Saints, Kent
HO107/1624/306/11
CHARLOTT Goldfinch, 61, Pauper/Washerwoman, born Cookham, Berkshire

Familysearch Pilot has this
Sharlott HUMPHRY, 14 October 1792, Cookham, Berkshire to JAMES/JANE

1841 Census
St Peters Lane,
St Peter, Kent
HO107/486/22/St Peter
Charlotte GOLDFINCH, 50, Charwoman, NOT born in County
THOMAS Goldfinch, 19, Labourer, NOT born in County
Jane Goldfinch, 13, YES born in County

1871 Census Thomas is born c 1821, Reading, Berkshire and in earlier Census he says Margate, Kent.Seems to have Married twice to Martha/Esther.
