Hi There,

I am looking for any help in researching My great Grandmother, Margaret Agnes Rose Glasgo.
I have very little information about her or her family. She first appears in my grandmothers Patricia Glasgo birth certificate, Details are: Patricia Glasgo born 17 March 1912 at Newton Vicarage Soberton. Father unknown, Mother Margaret Agnes Rose Glasgo, a domestic servant at Waltham House, Droxford (Droxford Union Workhouse).
The next time she appears is on her marriage certificate Details are: Margaret Agnes Rose Glasgo, age 28 years, Spinster, Occupation Nurse, married Charles Henry Poffley, Age 24 years, Bachelor, Occupation Railway Porter S.E.& C. Railway 26th March 1913 Dartford Registry office Kent.

Margaret does not appear in any census and i can find no trace of her.

Does anyone have any access to the Droxford union Workhouse Records, to see if she appears there, or could anyone find any thing from the Soberton Vicarage records please?

My grandmother Patricia was always was telling me that she thought her mother Margaret was Irish by birth if that helps too, and also on her marriage certificate, her Father was given as a Duncan Glasgo, rank or Profession: Sergt Major 2nd Kings Liverpool Regiment.

Hoping anyone can help

Peter Higginbothom's Workhouse website says of Droxford Workhouse:

Few records survive — holdings include Guardians' minute books (1835-1930); Ledgers (1836-1928); Letter books (1835-39).

Hi Michael,
She does not seem to appear on 1911 Census so may have been sent away from Ireland to have the Baby.
Is that you Tree on Anc with Photos of her?

If she was born c 1885 you will be able to find a Irish Birth Cert for her and purchase it.
Familysearch.Org has this;
Margaret GLASGOW
Birth, Reg District Belfast
Jan-Mar Qtr 1885
Film No 101060
Volume 1
Page 292
Digital Folder Number 4193461
Image Number 00393

Have you tried following up Duncans Regiment for more info on him?

Trish :)

So many probables.
Duncan sounds Scottish to me. Could have been born Scotland. Joined Regiment. Posted Ireland, Married, had Margaret etc etc.
Regiment could be Overseas between 1901-1912 etc ::)

No Duncan Glasgo/Glasgow in Scotland 1901 census.

No Margaret Glasgo ..........

BUT there are 24 Margaret Glasgow's in Scotland 1901 census.  Of them only 5 are between the ages of 14 - 18.
