Have you checked freebmd for the births of any of their children? A copy of the birth certs will give the mothers maiden names

Whilst I can't be certain about the Ann,a William Morgan aged 32 and a Widower(plumber),married a Mary Jane Gittins aged 20 at Rhosymedre Parish Church on the 9th of April 1862.I have the Parish Register booklet as transcribed by Clwyd FHS.William's father is given as a Francis Morgan(Coachman) and Mary Jane's father is given as Thomas Gittins(Tailor).

Hi Toby

Have you looked at the image of the 1861 Census for William and family?

William Morgan age 4 next door but one to the family

There is also a visitor with the Morgan family a Mary Gittins (transcribed as Gillins), age 19, an unmarried visitor born Overton Flintshire.

Arthur Morgan age 8 who appears on the 1871 census with William and Mary Jane as parents appears to have been born Jun Q 1861, registered Gt Boughton 8a 364.  In the same quarter there is a death of an Ann Morgan at Gt Boughton 8a 220.   Both of these events may tie in with Williams remarriage (found by WR Jones)to Mary Jane Gittins at Rhos (on the way to Shropshire)??

CaroleW's advice to order a birth certificate for your Charles Morgan would be the only way to verify his mothers maiden name and his parents marriage.

Even birthplaces given on BMD Indexes are unreliable,it is just a place where a birth was registered.

Hi wrjones, thanks so much .Yes William was a plumber so was his son William 1857,Ido think that William jnr was the son of Mary Jane and William before they were wed .Now I have confirmation of Mary Jane's maiden name  that is brilliant Ihave been looking for ages but no luck .The rest of the children were born in Wellington so this does  tie in with them moving to Shropshire.tobyma123 ;DJust received your new post thanks again.

There is a William Morgan/Anne Griffiths marriage in 1847 at Ruabon St Mary on Northwales BMD.  In 1851 they are aged 22 and 19 with no children but perhaps they married very young?  Worth a look up for William's father's name if anyone has access?
