James of Wimborne, Dorset
« on: Sunday 26 June 11 05:31 BST (UK) »
I have a Robert James bricklayer, and wife Jan, who had a son William born in 1831.

Appreciate knowing if there are any other James families in Wimborne or thereabouts.

Thanks!

Hi,

A quick look at 1841 census shows 159 people with the James surname living in the "Wimborne and Cranborne" district.

Have you looked at the records available on the Dorset OPC site?

Whilst at Dorset Records Office last week researching some marriages I was looking at the St John’s Church registers and noticed a James marriage adjacent to one that I was searching for. Sorry I didn’t make a note of the details and as I was looking at several years I can’t remember which one it was - so not much help to you I’m afraid.

At the DRO the St John’s BMDs appear to be on one microfilm indexed as New Borough and Leigh and as far as I can see there are currently no transcriptions for the parish on the OPC site or Ancestry although the latter does have some banns recorded. As I was told by a member of staff that Ancestry has copied all of the films, possibly they will be adding them at a later date.
I’m Researching:
CON: Chegwyn, Trayer.
DEV: Bickle, Chegwyn, Gaskin, Hill, Metter, Perry.
DOR: Butcher, Herridge, King, Pain, Palmer, Passmore.
GLS: Martin, Nelmes, Woodward, Young.
SOM: Major, Nation, Sims.
L&SWRailway: Damen, Young.
Wife Researching:
DOR: Burt, Gent, Watts.
STS: Bailey.
SAL: Dawes.
SCT: Raith, Smith, Edwardson. Mollison. Wilson. (MLN & SLI)
