Wiston
« on: Sunday 26 June 11 19:24 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am researching the Davies family from Wiston Pembrokeshire..  I have gone back as far as Thomas Davies born 1806 he married Martha Bartlett born 1809, they had about 17 children and have found the family on 1841 census until 1891 census.  I cannot find a marriage for Thomas and Martha, can anyone help please.
Many thanks

Try 25 Sept 1828 Thomas Davies to Martha Bartlett at Wiston.

Having had the information that Thomas Davies was of Scurtle and Martha Bartlett was of The Valley I have looked at the 1841 census and there is a Rachael Bartlett living at Valley she is a widow.  Looking through other postings (Mathias Slebech) I have found a note of a marriage for John Bartlett and Rachael Phillips in 1810 but Martha was born in 1809 so have I got the wrong parents
All the family living at Valley Farm Wiston in 1851 were christened in Wiston and have the parents John and Rachael Bartlett.  Can you tell me if this is Martha Bartletts family.
Thank you so much for your help

Wiston Mrge Register 1828
See Attached
Wiston Bapt Reg 1812
Martha & Mary Bartlett daughters of John & Rachel Bartlett bapt 12 Jan 1812

John Barlett mrd Rachael Phillips at Wiston in 1810 and I believe John's parents may be Michael Bartlett who married Elizabeth Harries at Wiston in 1774. However John is not confirmed as son of Michael in in Michael Bartlett’s will. I (or you if preferred) will just need to do a bit more research to confirm.

I believe the Davies daughters shown in John Bartlett’s will should in fact read Granddaughters.

Sorry to be a pain but I am wondering if I have got the correct Martha Bartlett because all the census from 1841 to 1871 say she was born about 1810.  Her parents John Bartlett and Rachael Phillips were married in 1810 but she was not christened until 1812 with Mary her sister. I am wondering if they were twins or Martha was not christened until two years after her birth.  It could be she was born 9 months after their wedding, the other possibility she was born before they married.
Thanks for your help

There where no other Martha Bartlett's baptised at Wiston prior to this date, there could well be one down in the Jefferston / Loveston area where another Bartlett family reside, with a family down at Gumfreston.
I do not believe they are twins, whilst Martha could still have mrd as a minor (15 yrs) I would have expected it to be shown on the Mrge Cert and with the consent of parents.
I am still sure you have the right parents and children as confirmed by the will of John Bartlett, its a pity that Michael did not quote John in his will to confirm another generation.
