hi  there were 2 james drummonds born whitby both mariners my james married in sunderland 1845 had 3 children but by 1850 he lost 2 children and his wife .I can not trace him on any census and my earlier thread below states my query's about the surviving joseph william
As a mariner i believe he is always at sea or has died but got no proof of anything

Hi Brian

I assume you're meaning this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,540302.0.html

How sad  :(

I've had problems tracing a friend's family - a mariner out of South Shields. He only appeared in one of 4 censuses!

I've had a look at  1851 census -  ships in port and Scottish records but I don't see him.

In the beginnign you ask for the 1851 census for a James Drummond and where was he born.  Then you say Whitby (I am gathering the one in Yorkshire)

I think you are going to have to be a little more forthcoming with names that you have?

Who did James marry in 1845?  Did they live in Sunderland or were they in Bishopwearmouth?  When was Joseph William born?  Where?  Who did he marry?  What were the names of the children including the names of the ones that died?  Do you have the marriage of James?--what was his father's name and occupation?  How do you tell one James Drummond born Whitby from another?

Is the Joseph Drummond married to a Sarah Ann the one in the 1881 census in Bishop Auckland that is a Iron Moulder born abt 1850  RG11/ 4915 folio 32 page 2?  That one was born Sunderland.  He is also buried in Bishopwearmouth Cemetery 21 May 1884 Joseph William Drummond, of South Johnson Street, age 35, Moulder
