Hello again Middlesbrough,

Here is what I found for the Lothian's etc.

JANE LOTHIAN, housewife, Wishaw, aged 89 years, widow.
Parents - Alexander Lang & Janet Wilkie.
Interred in the Clyde burial ground on 1st November 1866.

JANE LOTHIAN, housewife, Wishaw, aged 58 years, married.
Parents - Robert Brownlee & Marion Davidson.
Interred in the Clyde burial ground on 2nd February 1874.

I made a mistake in my earlier posting, William Lothian is not buried at Kirkhill (Clyde).
Here he is -
WILLIAM LOTHIAN, joiner, Wishaw, aged 37 years, married.
Parents - David Lothian & Jane Lang.
Interred in the old churchyard at Cambusnethan on 20th September 1861.

JESSIE DALZIEL, Wishaw, aged 23 years, unmarried.
Parents - John Dalziel & Jane Lothian.
Old churchyard on 13th March 1868.

The plot records for the old churchyard at Cambusnethan only begin in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. (No plot records exist for Kirkhill/Clyde).

A plot owned in Victorian times by John Dalziel & Jane Lothian.
In the centre compartment -
JANE DALZIEL, aged 77 years, buried on 9th February 1883.
JOHN DALZIEL, aged 82 years, buried 16th June 1883.

In the south compartment -
GEORGE FERGUSON, aged 48 years, buried 15th October 1891.
JEANIE FERGUSON, aged 73 years, buried 21st April 1915.

Here are a few more "maybe's"

MARY CAPPIE, Wishaw, aged 84 years, widow.
Parents - John Lothian & Helen Baxter.
Interred in the new cemetery plot E1974 on 25th December 1908.

JANET RAMAGE, housewife, Flemington (parish of Dalziel) aged 59 years, married.
Parents - William Lothian & Janet Brown.
Interred in the old churchyard on 3rd October 1910.

JEANIE FERGUSON, Dufftown, aged 73 years, widow.
Parents - John Dalziel & Jeanie Lothian.
Old churchyard on 21st April 1915. (see plot records)

The 2 pictures are of the same stone, I didn't transcribe it at the time and from what I can read of it now -

"1838 Erected by David Lothian and Jane Lang in memory of William and Christian their two children. David Lothian died . . . . . . . 1854 aged 54(?) and his wife died . . . . . 1866?"
Underneath is written -
"In memory of our dear father and mother William(?) Pearston . . . . . . died  . . . 1898(?) aged 70 years and Christina Lothian his wife who died . . . . . . 1900 aged 80 years".

So I was right the first time, William Lothian who died in 1861 IS buried at Kirkhill, not at Cambusnethan churchyard. Checked the records again and it does say Cambusnethan but this picture below was 100% definitely taken at Kirkhill.

Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Hi Lodger,
Thank you so much for all this. I will now have to go through my Lothian family. If Charles died before 1841 and Lockhart between 1841 and 51, where do you think they would likely be interred? It is so frustrating. It would be good if I could find out which estate (if any) he worked on.

Thanks so much again, you're a star!

Just realised, David Lothian is the brother of Lockhart!

When I was a young boy I used to play in the old Cemetery and I remember what it looked like then. The grave stones were still standing and I remember the Covenanters graves. This was in the late 40's and early 50's

I went back there 2 years  ago and I almost cried, there was nothing left but the Duke of Hamiltons mosoleum.

There were no fences and the cows had free access. What a shame and a loss of our heritage

Hi Lodger,
This is my first post.  It is truly wonderful information that you give us.
I think I saw the monument for John Cairns d1876 some time ago.
May I have a copy? Will hit "post" and hope for the best.  :)

Hello Mariblog and welcome to Rootschat.
I'm not too sure which John Cairns you mean, can you match him with a wife or mother's maiden surname please?

Thanks for such a quick reply, Lodger.  Sorry I wasn't more precise. It was for John Cairns 1823-1876 whose parents were Adam Cairns d1835 and Janet Paterson 1798?-1876.  All deaths were in Cambusnethan

Thank you!

Here are the pictures of that stone, no mention of John Cairns on it though!

I have the plot records for the old churchyard but they only begin towards the end of 1876, so he isn't there but, he is recorded in the gravedigger's day book.
JOHN CAIRNS, miner & pauper, Chapel, aged 53 years, married.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.
Interred in the old churchyard on 2nd August 1876.

Also in that plot but not recorded on the stone is -
MARGARET CAIRNS, aged 87 years.
Interred 5th February 1924.

The details from the day book for Archibald -
ARCHIBALD CAIRNS, retired engine keeper, aged 78 years, married.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.

Further information from the gravedigger's day book -

ADAM CAIRNS, engine keeper, Chapel, aged 79 years, married.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.
Interred in the new cemetery, plot 1559/60A on 15th April 1911.
Plot owned (at that time) by Mrs Janet McLean or Cairns, Braehead Cottage, Chapel.

HENRY CAIRNS, engine keeper, Chapel, aged 45 years, unmarried.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.
Interred in the old churchyard on 30th December 1864.

JAMES CAIRNS, coal miner, Overtown, aged 49 years, widower.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.
Interred in the old churchyard 13th July 1867.

ANDREW CAIRNS, shoemaker, Morningside, aged 53 years, widower.
Parents - Adam Cairns & Janet Paterson.
Interred in the old churchyard on 11th December 1873.

JANET CAIRNS, pauper, Cambusnethan, aged 98 years, widow.
Parents - James Paterson. ---------- no mother's name recorded.
Interred in the old churchyard on 11th January 1878.

Do you know if the James who died in 1867 had a wife named Margaret Sommerville? There is a burial for ADAM CAIRNS aged 30 in 1874 with these parents. Could also be related to names McEwen, Nelson and Hay.
Also a child JAMES CAIRNS who died 1875, parents Thomas Cairns & Annie Mitchell.

Also Agnes Cairns married to George McQueen?
Adam Cairns married to Janet Robb?
Andrew Cairns married to Helen Carr?
Ring any bells?
Here are the pictures, may have to continue on another post.
