Bracemaker

In several Immigration records I have seen Bracemaker as occupation of women. Wikkipedia doesnt recognise the word. I have double-checked, it's not Lace maker. I wonder if it is something to do with ladies undergarments?

A brace is one of a pair of straps of leather or webbing used to support the trousers; a suspender. There were two types of Brace Maker, leather or elastic.
A Leather Brace Maker cut out by hand or by a cutting machine; pricked holes and inserted eyelets, by hand or machine; stiched by hand or machine; in the case of webbing braces attached leather parts.
An Elastic Brace Maker was a sewer or sewing machinist who joined together by hand or machine the component parts already cut to shape by a cutter.
