Hye
I'm trying to track down 19th century and 18th century Usher family who lived in Kirkdale. Anyone know anything?
Steve

Have you looked on the 1881 census?  That is free to search on various sites and if you can pin them down in that then they can be found in other census years.   www.familysearch.org may have baptisms too.

Andrea

Thank you it was more 18th century - they don't appear in the Parish register
and wondered if anyone had done any work on this.
They moved to York in the mid 19th century and I have details of them then.
Cheers
Steve

H Steve,

There are quite a lot of entries for USHER in Kirkdale Parish Registers - children of William Usher and Sarah Atkinson and their descendants.  William and Sarah were married in Kirkbymoorside in 1776. You say 'yours' don't appear in the PRs so is it someone in particular you are seeking?

Yes it was before that time - hit a bit of a brick wall. Searched Kirbymoorside PR but no luck.
What other places would labourers travel from in the area? Perhaps they might hold the clue as to the true origins of the Ushers!
Thank you
Steve
