Fire in Pembridge 1853
« on: Wednesday 29 June 11 17:47 BST (UK) »
My 3 x G.Grandmother Hannah Miles (formerly Jones nee ???) died following a fire in June 1853. She was living in an Alms House in Pembridge (pic. attached) in 1851 with her son George. She was also there in 1841 with her grand-daughter Eliza aged 2 & George. Does anyone know anything more about this fire presumably at the Alms house?

Would they keep records at the firestation going back that far?

If so I have a work colleague who is a retained firefighter at a station nearby & I could get him to have a look for you.

Thank you Mike. that would be very helpful but I don't know if records go back that far. I would imagine they might be in the HEF. record office.

I asked my mate today & he is going to look into this.

I'm away now until next thursday so i'll speak with him then.

The records office may have some info but if not then try the library as they do hold copies of the local paper, the Hereford Times. The paper was in circulation in the early 1800's so hopefully it may have covered the story.

Yes, I had thought of that but it's not available at Collingwood so will have to wait until I come to Hereford unless there's a kind person who could look it up for me.
