Broseley Marriage
« on: Thursday 30 June 11 00:12 BST (UK) »
The IGI has a marriage at Broseley on 21st November 1790 for ANNE BOTFIELD to FRANCIS GOLDEN.

I'm particularly wondering if Anne Botfield may be a widow and therefore may possibly my 5x G Grandmother. She will still be related to me in some even if she's not my 5x G Grandmother

If anyone is visiting Shropshire Archives please could they look up this marriage? It will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Judy

LOOKING AT THE ADVANCED RECORDS ON IGI
Ann Botfield christened 6th May 1764
Eardisley
Herefordshire
mother Sarah  ...no father ...looks a possible  for your Anne ...it`s the only one I can find anywhere near the time frame ...
so now we need to see if we can find a Botfield marrying an Anne between abt 1775 and 1790 ?...is that correct

Mapquest uk states that Broseley to Eardisley is 50 miles ....seems a bit far to me in 1700`s ...doesn`t look that good to me

I'm wondering if the Ann Botfield who married Francis Golden is the widow of Joseph King Botfield (my 5x G Grandparents), if so she was born about 1736. Joseph King Botfield and Ann(nee Wilde) had several children born in Much Wenlock and one son John born 1776 born in Broseley. Broseley baptisms are on the IGI yet there are no children for Francis and Ann Golden after 1790.

Joseph King Botfield and Ann's daughter married an Aaron Golden in Broseley in 1780 so the family may be already linked. It may be a case of Aaron Golden's father Francis marrying his wife's mother?

Hi Judy.

I realise this is an old Posting but hope your research may help in solving a problem I have.

My 3x GGrandmother is Alice Golden, Baptised 17 May 1788 St Leonard, Broseley.  However Parents are shown as Aaron and ANNE (not Mary).

I believe this was an error by the Vicar who probably knew all his Parishioners personally and completed the record after the event, confusing Mother and Grandmother (who was Anne).  I can find no other Aaron so I believe this theory to be highly likely.

When she married, in 1809, she used the name Alley Golden.

Has your research thrown up a similar problem?

Hi Diagan,
You're not to believe this, while I think you're correct about the Aaron and Anne bit I've realised we're probably related through Aaron's wife and mother. Aaron's wife was Mary Botfield - she is my 4x G Aunt while I believe Aaron's father's 2nd wife Ann (he married 2 Ann's) was actually Ann Botfield nee Wilde the mother of Aaron's wife Mary Botfield, this Ann is my 5x G Grandmother!

Judy,

Yes - I suspected we would be related.

We share Anne Botfield as 5x GGrandmother whilst Mary was my 4x GGrandmother.

Thanks for the info regarding Anne having married twice - I had researched Mary's Botfield/Botevyle ancestry but had not, until now, looked closely at Anne Wilde.

By the way the date of Anne's Marriage to Joseph is confusing - IGI shows 6 Feb 1760 but Shopshire Parish Records show 16 Aug 1762. I believe 1760 to be more likely as that is when Mary was born and that the Shropshire Records were wrongly transcribed.

Please PM me if you have any more info.

Ian
