Where are these cemeteries? (near Plymouth in Devon)
« on: Saturday 02 July 11 00:49 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Today I was going through some old things of my great grandmas and she mentioned some burial info. In a journal she kept about her trip to England. She said some of her aunts and uncles were buried in "St. Stevens Church Cemetery" and "St. Mary's Church & Cemetery".
Since my Engish ancestors were mainly from the Plymouth area, I would make a good guess by saying they are in the Plymouth area.
Would any of you know how I could obtain burial info about them?
If you need their names I would be happy to share.

Thanks,
--Alex

Parish locator for Devon shows no St. Mary or St. Steven in Plymouth, but there is
a St. Mary at Plympton which is 4.4 miles east of Plymouth and there is a St. Stephens
by Saltash which is 5.9 miles north by north west of Plymouth.

there is a list of Devon parishes here:

Townson - Cartmel                      O'Malley - Askeaton, Ireland
Sadler - Dymock & Salford           Tomlinson - St Peters, Leeds
Wilkinson - Salford                      Chant - Sherbourne, Dorset
Garner - Pendleton

Hi

Most churches have deposited their historic burial registers in county record offices. Devon Family History Society has a burial index for Devon 1813-1837

http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/indexes.htm#Burials

If they died after the start of civil registration (1st July 1837) you need to check where and when they died in case it was not in Devon or that area of Devon.

Civil registration index
