Hi, I'm looking for any guidance or help for my Totterdell ancestors.

Ann Coate Totterdell (1865) is my great grandmother and I'm trying to go further back in this branch of the family tree.  I ordered and just received her parent's marriage certificate, they were William Totterdell and Susan Bale Locock, so I now have both of her grandfathers' names, another William (!) Totterdell and Thomas Locock.

I've managed to trace more on the Locock side, Thomas' wife as Maria Bale, but am having difficulty with William Totterdell senior.  From the marriage certificate I know Ann's father William was a farmer and I believe I've found him on the 1861 census as a farmer of 175 acres in Yarcombe Somerset.  I'm sure this is the correct person as Ann's marriage certificate shows the 2 witnesses as Betsey and Charles Totterdell and on the 1861 census they were shown as brother and sister living with their father William.

I would love to go further back to find out William's wife's name etc and possibly find out their parents' names but I'm struggling with this.

Any help with this would be great.

The 1871 shows Ann with her family in Bristol.

Susan and William married in 1859 so presumably are together in the 1861 census you have.  What we really need is the 1841 and 51 census.  I don't know that area at all so am going to move this to the Somerset board so that you get some local help.

Beat me to it - and I was so proud of myself for finding it!  Can't see a marriage.  The big gap in children is after William so I was hoping it might be after 1837.

Possible family in Meer Green, West Hatch transcribed Tardell, although no Mary(wife), children about right. Also another generation ? Charles.

William and Mary's son Samuel was christened Samuel Waters TOTTERDELL, so how about this marriage?  (The spelling variations for Totterdell are apparently endless!)

Thanks so much everyone.  Despite the many, many spellings of Totterdell (!!!) all your info does seem to tie up, so I can add them all to my tree.

Anyone found anything else??!!!!
