*Complete*William CANDY buried in Bulimba, QLd in 1944
« on: Monday 04 July 11 10:59 BST (UK) »
Fellow listers

Can anyone help me with an age for William Candy who was buried at Bulimba in Nov 1944?

His death notice says he was from Warrnambool in Victoria, and the only possibility is a William Candy who was born in 1860.

I think his wife's name may have been Anita, and that they had a son named Henry Beaumont CANDY, who served in the RAAF in the Second World War, but if anyone can help with information about this family, I would be most grateful.

Kind regards

Phil Candy

This is brilliant; thank you.

I have been looking for this man for over thirty years - he was the second youngest of eleven children born to James CANDY and his wife Ann HEATON in Warrnambool on 1 April 1860.

After James died in an accident in 1874, the family fractured and split up; one brother wound up in Darwin, another (after a few brushes with the law) died on Kangaroo island in South Australia; another one was admitted to a mental asylum in Ararat, Victoria, where he died, and now it looks like William drifted around the backblocks of Queensland for years.

I must try to find if Henry Beaumont actually married; his engagement is reported in 1953 in the Brisbane Courier, but he may have married and had children.

Also, It looks like William didn't marry Anita (aka Maggie) until 1928, yet Henry was born in Charleville in 1921 according to his service records. So was he born out of wedlock, or did William have another spouse or was Anita the mother of Henry?

This has been an unexpected bonus in my family history search; many thanks for all your help.

Philip

Phil,

He sure knocked about the bush, the marriage date was 7th Jan 1928 and with a B number means it was in Brisbane (B2691).
