1929 marriage cert.
« on: Monday 04 July 11 15:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,
On the Northern Ireland marriage certificates in 1929, what would they put in the section for the groom's father's name and rank or profession, if he was deceased.

Hi Bob

Dont know much of the certificates for N Ireland but as far as I know
it should be the full story plus deceased in brackets.  I have one of
my GGGrandad and his story was put on even though he was deceased
and that was in 1863 but in England.
It just depends on how or what the bride or groom told the registrar.
Maybe if you put the persons name on here if they are not still alive
someone may have the certificate or at least try and find it for you?

Hi,
In 1941 they have a section for rank or profession but on my parents' marriage certificate it indicates "dead" for one of my grandfathers in this section.

And I have a Northern Ireland certificate for 1930s which shows father's name and occupation without 'deceaed' or 'dead' being written in although he was already dead. It really just depends on what the minister/registrar recorded.

Thanks everyone, Sandymc, kingkerswell and aghadowey,
My parents wedding in 1929, my grandfather, Robert John Ferris born 1880, is on the certificate as an enginedriver, and I have no idea when he died, There was a possible death in 1911 for him,but am not so sure now.
    Thanks again for your help,

Have you checked the Will Extracts on PRONI website to see if he's listed?

It all depends on the vicar or registrar and what question he asked.

If he just asked what's your father's name and what does he do,he will get just that as a response. If however he then went on to ask is he still alive,or the couple actually volunteered that info then he would get a different answer  ;)

Hi Carol,
I thought the marriage certificate would be proof that he was alive in 1929, but it is not so, thanks for your help.

aghadowy, I did check the Wills Extracts at PRONI, but no luck, thank you for your help
