He died in September of 1941. After the 1880's he started going by the name Richard instead of Ralph, took me a while to get my head around that!
You could be right about what the undertakers may of done. Only thing though, it's stamped on his burial record 'Grave with exclusive Right of Burial Section: A' - I'm not exactly sure what that means..  ???

I think I get it now  ;D
So would that mean he had to of been given permittion to be burried there? he wasn't just shoved in some other guys grave just because of the same surname?

Hi

It looks as if his wife, Harriet, died in 1909

Harriet Nicholls
Aged 46  (so born 1863)
March quarter 1909
Romford
4A 337

Have you found where she was buried?

Looking at the censuses he seems to have had 7 children, I wonder why he was buried alone?

1901 census:  RG13; Piece: 1654; Folio: 21; Page: 34  Romford

Harriet Nicholls           38                                    Romford

Florence E Nicholls   10                                    Hornchurch

You are correct about her dieing in 1909. I've been on the search for her grave..
Ralph and Harriet had 9 kids in total that i've come across. The 8th being Reginald Albert 1903 and the last being a Gladys Olive born in 1906 and died in 1908.
Whilst I was at the place where the records were held I asked about Gladys and Harriet, and neither of them were buried in the same cemetery as Ralph. So i'm wondering if they're buried somewhere different maybe together.. which makes it even more confusing as to why he was all alone!

I was having a bit of a search this morning and I think that the other two nicholls who lived once in the same house as he did, may of been related to him.

There is a Elizabeth Ivy Nicholls & Richard James Nicholls born to a William and Rosetta Nicholls in Barking (Not distant from the locations Ralph had lived in his life) I was thinking William may of been a brother of Ralph, but i'm having trouble tieing him in  :(

I wonder if the fact that he died during World War 2 had anything to do with it, perhaps it was done in a hurry.

I guess that's a good possibility  ;D
At least I know where my guy is buried now, even if I don't know who these other guys are for sure.
Thank you for your help!
