Many thanks for these.

I guess it raises the question of whether there is an earlier marriage of a Sarah LETCH to a George BROWN? It doesn't explain why she reverted to her maiden name when she married Alf BARTLETT, but it does give an insight into the children mentioned in her Will.

Thanks so much.

Phil

As far as I can see there are no  births in Victoria  for the children of George Brown and Sarah Letch

Thanks for checking Jenn.

I wonder if they had a 'common-law' marriage, and that she later married Alfred BARTLETT.  That at least would explain the fact that her marriage was under her maiden name.

It's all a bit complicated.

Basically I was trying to confirm that her sister, Rosina, was the one who married Edmund SMITH in 1854, and from all the circumstantial evidence, it would seem to be the case.

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards

Phil

Hi
I agree with Jenn.
No marriage to BROWN
No children by those given names with mother SARAH LETCH.

One mentioned in her will was named ROSE.(for sister ROSINA??)

MMmmm... speculations :D

That's really clever, Sue.

I have found the little family together in London in 1841 (Mum, Dad and two daughters), and Rosina was called Rose at that time, so it's quite possible that Sarah used that name for one of her own daughters.

Really good thought; thanks

Phil

Thank you very much for these findings.

The name Rosina is a bit of a give-away, and it does suggest that Sarah LETCH (later BROWN, later BARTLETT) was almost certainly the sister of Rosina LETCH (later SMITH)

I really appreciate all your help with this; it's fantastic.

Many thanks

Phil
