Hi Fred, nice to hear from someone with Bowen conections and I will certainly follow up on this information. I must say I have not done to much research since my last posting, also it's funny you mention kenmare as im traveling down there next week for a weekend break. Anyway Fred thanks for the info and will hope to make some postings soon.

Thomas Bowen purchased in 1625 the castle town and lands of Liskellin in the barony of Kilmaine in Co.Mayo.  Also a descendent of his William Bowen of Hollymount Co.Mayo. I think this is the link with the west I was thinking of so perhaps Mayo rather than Galway. Endless history on the family in The History of Queen's county which has two volumes of about 700 pages. Interesting reading in any case if you can find a copy. Rather too much information for me to type in here. However it may or may not be the same link but Bowen can not be too common in Co.Galway. I see only 17 names in 1901 census but none in Co Mayo.
