Look up please, Sioux family, St Lawrence Jersey
« on: Sunday 10 July 11 10:12 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find some birth and marriage details about the Sioux family.
I have them on the 1891/1901/1911 census in St Lawrence, Jersey
I have Ange Sioux  born 1863 and Rose/ Rosalie born 1864
both of French birth and married 1890/91
Their son Albert Francis Sioux was born in 1891.
Their other son Ernest Joseph was born in 1893 again St Lawrence and he had a daughter Rozelle May c 1933.
I only have these sketchy details and realise it's a very big ask but I would be so very grateful for any help.

Thank you.
Pat.

Have a look at www.jerseyheritagetrust.jeron.je

Search under Archives and then names, just Sioux in the search box will find a Sioux family, Roselle May amongst them although it gives her father as Albert Joseph born 1889

I'm going to look at the website you've given me right now.

Thanks again,

Jerseylily,

Not in my wildest dreams did I think I would get all this info.
I knew that Rozelle May had a number of sisters but I didn't have any names for them, now thanks to you it seems that I have them all and more besides.

Thank you so much.
Pat

I was doing one of my volunteer stints at the Jersey Archive this morning so I had a look at your Sioux's.

I had a look for Sioux births in St Lawrence and found Ernest Joseph however the surname was spelt Scioux.

Using the alternative spelling I went back to the computer and found an Occupation card for Rose Scioux, née Merou born 18/11/1862 in Corlay, Cotes du Nord. There are also Alien registration cards dating from 1921 for both Rose and Ange (or Ange Marie Thomas to give him his full name!). These cards and the Occupation cards should all have photographs on them.

I then went to the Corlay records at www.archives.cotesdarmour.fr and so far have found the birth record for Ange, this time the name is spelt Sciou

At 11pm on 11/4/1862 Ange Marie Thomas Sciou
Father - Thomas Sciou, aged 41, Labourer
Mother - Marie Joseph Auffret, aged 32, Housewife

I've not found Rose yet but as Ange's birthdate was wrong on the Archive site her's may well be too.

I'll get back to you if I find anything else.

How can I ever thank you for the time and trouble you've taken in finding all of these records for me.
My nephew's partner asked me to see if I could find out anything about this family, her mother died when she was quite young and all she had was her name, Roselle May. She thought her grandfather was named Ernest but I think after looking at the records that you have so kindly found for me it was perhaps her uncle, Ernest Joseph.
I have so many questions going round in my head at the moment especially about
Florence, accused of murdering her baby but  as the record is closed for a hundred years a bit of a wait for that one.

Again thank you so much for all this.

Pat.

The court records may be closed for 100 years but the newspaper archives aren't.

Leave it with me and next time we get we get a wet afternoon I'll go and wrestle with the library microfilm readers.

I'll send any information I find by a personal message.

Hooray - I found the marriage of Ange and Rose

It was on the 17th May 1890 at St Thomas's Roman Catholic Church

Ange's details we already knew but she was in fact Marie Rose Méron, father Louis Méron, a shoemaker. That made it much easier to find her on the French website - her dob was 17/11/1862, father Louis and mother Marie Louis Salio
