Walsh Linton born 1818 country of Armagh Ireland

Something to consider - I'll get back to you with full info once I can remember where I found it - but when browsing records I did find
1) Welsh Linton; &
2) Walsh Linton.

I considered that there may have been some confusion with the two, certainly for us as researchers we could easily mistake one for the other.

I do remember noticing that they lived in different places though.

Sorry I didn't take more notice at the time but was in a hurry and then went away for the weekend.

Leanne- in Ulster the surnames Walsh and Welsh are interchangable and pronounced the same way.

Hi Peggy,
You are wrong William and John Edward were not adopted they were the children of Walsh and Diana Beams I have their Baptism paper that says Diana was mother.

I just discovered your thread.  I believe I may be researching a related line.

My husband's great grandfather is Archibald Murray Sr., son of David and Mary Jane (Linton) Murray.  They named their youngest son John Linton.  I found the index for their marriage in Family Search - married 29 Jun 1854 in County Armagh.  Mary Jane's father is listed as Welsh Linton.  Living a few  doors down from David Murray in the 1901 census in Aughrafin (Ballymartrim, Armagh) is a Samuel Linton.  The census puts his birth year abt. 1841. I found Samuel's marriage record, he also wed in County Armagh to a Mary Jane Lawson on 07 Jun 1864.  His father's name is listed as Welsh Linton.  Samuel then names their first son, born in 1867, Welsh.

The Welsh Linton you have mentioned born in 1818, do you know his spouse or children's names?  Are Mary Jane and/or Samuel among them?  Thank you for your assistance.

Shay

Hi Shay,
the only problem is there seems to be a few families with Walsh 1891, Mary Jane 1827, John1817, William 1816. So far my Linton's don't have a Samuel. There was a Samuel that came from Ireland as a convict to Tasmania.

Walsh Linton born abt 1819 in Armagh he left Ireland
Walsh Linton arrived in LAUNESTON Tasmania 10 Jan 1843
with sister Mary Jane Linton  age 21 years and Elizabeth age 14 years. she died age 21 in Tas.
aboard the ship " ROYAL SOVEREIGN" which sailed from London Via Cork Ireland.
application for assistance[ bounty refused] as an immigrant was refused
Walsh Linton was not convict, but it Looks like the ship was also used to carry convicts,a few years before.

From the WILL of his sister Mary Jane Johnson she died in Tullycalliday Co Armagh Ireland 12 Aug 1884 I haven't sent for death certificate it might have her parents on it. They had siblings John, William, Elizabeth, Elen it also had nieces and nephews.
by what we know so far Their father was a William and mother Mary Jane we think Dunn. They have cousins Johnson,Dunn,Gillespie.

Irish death certificates do not list names of parents. See here for details included on death certificates-

What a shame that's makes it harder to find parents.
What about marriage certificate of one of her siblings that married in Ireland?
