It's not a common christian name, is it possible that she was informally adopted by norah and joseph after a family tragedy, losing both parents maybe?

There is a possible marriage in 1953 for her - won't post details as could still be living (husband bn 1930).

Must admit I did raise my hopes slightly until I saw the marriage, but thanks for your help; this is a bit of a brickwall!

Was Leone in the W. A .A .F if she was, I think she may have had to produce a birth certificate to join up, are there any records for the W A A F you could look up

yes she was, on her 1st marriage cert it says A.C. Squ? W.A.A.F. 436070 at R.A.F. Cranwell, (again the story is that her birth cert was destroyed in a fire!!)
 surely it would have been needed for her marriages too?

Yes I think at the time of the marriage she would have needed her birth certificate, also to start school, did she go abroad, if she did she have needed it to get a passport, I don't think she could have gone through life without some sort of identification, if she was formerly adopted they could have change her name.
