Pentrefelin
« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 22:13 BST (UK) »
does anyone know if there are maps/info sources which would help to find out  how long dwellings have stood in a certain place near Pentrefelin?( between Porthmadog and Criccieth)
I have the Cassell's 1840/44 map but it's quite difficult to decifer. At that time Pentrefelin did not exist as such but there was Felin Newye ( new mill).
All tips welcome - a friend has recently moved into the area and we'd love to know about the history of the house - parts of it are more recent but the inner parts look very old.

Hi BL,
May I suggest you post your request under Caernarfonshire, which is where Pentrefelin is today? The information you want may be related to the inclusion of many Caernarfonshire places in the Ffestiniog registration district in times past.
                          Pinot  :)

If  you think it is as old as 1830/40 then it may be shown on a Tithe map.
Name of landowner and occupier will also be found. These are usually in the local records office.  :)
Census information is Crown Copyright (see: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk)

Hi
Parish of Ynyscynhaiarn is split by the parish of Treflys. Depending where in the Pentrefelin area the property is, it could be in either parish. What is the name of the property ?
