'Nighet', 1871 Bradford Census
« on: Friday 15 July 11 18:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,
My mind is being thoroughly boggled by a 1871 census entry for Bradford, Yorkshire.  A family surnamed 'Nighet' were living at 18 Wapping Street -

Attie, b abt 1831 Ireland
Athe, b abt 1854 Bradford
Sam, b abt 1861 Bradford
Mary Nolan (my ancestor), b abt 1821 Ireland Lodger
Ann Haley, b abt 1847 Ireland Lodger

Trouble is, this Nighet family cannot be found in any other census, and I have tried most.  I suspect the name has been mis-spelt/misheard, as I cannot find a surname of Ireland that resembles it (or an English one either).

I have tried all sorts of variations, including Knight, Night, Hyatt, Hyett, and also variations on 'Attie' and 'Athe' (which I think may also be mistakes) including Allie, Annie, Alice, Mattie, but alas nothing.

I've tried BMD records as well.....no result.

I wondered if anyone might be able to think of something I can't which would help me solve the mystery!  I would be grateful for any suggestions,

Chris

Ive put Nighten into Familysearch.org and birthplace Ireland around 1830-40 and there are quite a few people named Naghten in Roscommon plus a Naghton......
