WHEELER in Lewisham

Hi, I have been using the library version of ancestry at my local library, but I cannot find this Wheeler family there in the 1861 census:-

Thomas b 1823
Esther b 1824 Deptford
John b 1849 Greenwich/Lewisham
"Margrett" and Sarah Ann b 1859 Greenwich

They are transcribed elsewhere in 1861 as "Whaler" instead of "Wheeler" but I still havent been able to locate them. I am wondering if they have been ommitted from ancestry?   Not even the deviation from the usual spelling of Margaret is bringing them to light, but maybe someone else will be more successful.

Not really sure what you are asking here, as you say you can't find them in 1861, but then say they are transcribed as Whaler in 1861?

I was trying to find them in "ancestry" as that is what I have access to through my local library, rather than pay a subscription to another site for just one entry.  Now that I have the piece and folio numbers I am hoping this will help me.  Thank you very much for your help.

Ooh, thanks for that.  I hadn't found what happened to John, so that's great.  Thomas I had details for in 1881 but not 1871 so that's a big help.

Your research is correct, Trish.

It's interesting though, as Thomas Wheeler and Esther Clark did not marry until 1846, but the baptism of Thomas is definitely 1845, as Thomas James Wheeler son of Thomas and Esther Wheeler, and not the illegitimate child of Esther Clark.  Bromley where they married was not their normal parish, so I am guessing they slipped off quietly to tie the knot inconspicuously.
