Hi.
My Name is Leonora Jackaman. I am from England. I have been trying to trace my family roots in
Northern ireland, and came across your posting. I have only just joined 'Rootschat' and I know your posting is three years old now.
I think the James you are talking about was the brother of Martha and Henry -whose parents were Catherine and Andrew Burnett. They were my great Grandparents. Catherine was originally from Londonderry. Martha, her daughter was my Grandmother.
I don't know how much information you have. Maybe your history of Ireland was handed down to you orally. Mine wasn't. But although Catherine my great Grandmother and your Great great Grandmother's maiden name was Harbison, I can't find any trace of her in Ireland before she met and married Andrew Burnett. I'm sure she was born in 1843, but There is no mention of her on the 1851 census. A posting says she was married in limavady 17th march 1870.
I would like to find her maiden name if I could. Do you have this information?
I know your Great Grandfather James married a Matilda Campbell, but I don't know which of their children went to America. I hope you pick up this posting.
thank you.
 Leonora

Hi again sorry!
I meant to ask, do you have any information on Catherine Harbison's siblings -not her maiden name. I already have that. Or is this too far back?

Catherine's name was Harbison- details posted earlier.
The 1851 census for Co. Londonderry does not survive. A church record of her baptism will probably be the only earlier record you'll find (marriages usually take place in bride's church so 1st Limavady Presbyterian is probably best place to start) other than maybe a school register entry which will be harder to track down (if it exists) and give less detail.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi,
The Griffiths Valuation lists two Harbison heads of household in the Limavady area. The date of publication was 1858 for Co.londonderry. There is a Robert who lives in Ballyclose (now Ballyclose Street), who rented a house and a James who had a large farm in Irish terms in the townland of Drumramer, just to the east of Limavady.

Hi again,
One other small point, the Rev George W. Hamill, an executor of the will, was the minister of Limavady First Presbyterian Church from 1860 to 1916. This is where Catherine was married.
