Egremont graves
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 12:50 BST (UK) »
I am trying to determine whether my great-grandmother was buried in Egremont. Her name was Fanny Jane Jeffery (or Jeffrey) (nee Gardiner). She died 4 April 1947. Father was John Gardiner. Mother was Sarah (nee Wilson).

Also her husband Richard Jeffery who died 19 November 1921.

Many thanks.

Many thanks Sandra.

Richard doesn't surprise me as he died following a mining accident at Ullcoats Mine. Fanny Jane spent the rest of her life at Garlands.

Do you have any records of headstones or would these have only contained basic facts such as the name and date of death?

Is there an earlier Sarah Wilson (nee Sherwin) who was married to John Wilson? And maybe a William Gardiner? These are the next generation back from John and Sarah Gardiner.

And John Jeffery and Mary Ann (nee Martin) on Richard's side?

I believe they were Wesleyan based on marriage records.

There were no head stones listed for John, Sarah, Fanny or Richard.

Will have a look for the others.

The first burial here was August 1864 - would John and Sarah Wilson have died after that date ?

If so, have you got any birth dates for them ?

Thank you so much. This gives me several leads... I have no dates that far back as yet but I may be able to trace them thanks to the information you've provided.
