Swedish Woman Elsa Johansson
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 17:41 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to a Swedish woman who arrived at Prestwick on the night 9/10th October 1944. Her name was Elsa Nanna Johansson and she was born on 27 November 1906 in Karlshamn. Her employer and fiance Alfred Frederick Rickman was born on 17 January 1902 in Wimbledon and arrived in UK in 15 March 1944. He was waiting for her and they were supposed to get married. Both had been involved in work for SOE in Sweden.
At least Rickman was living at 511 Beatty House, Dolphin Square London S.W.1 in february 1945. Probably Rickman died in 1985 in Kent.

Does anyone know if they married and where they lived after that?
Further, what occupation did they have after their arrival in Britain??
Any information is of great value

Thankyou very much.
At last a trace.
But they obviously waited 12 years before getting married.

How could I get a copy of the marriage certificate?
I suppose I am not allowed to ask about any children here.

Thankyou, thankyou Suzard.
This is a lot more than I expected.
Yes, I am of course interested in the death certificate.

Alfred Rickman became famous in Sweden, his bungling bunch of saboteurs are called "the Rickman gang". We are writing a book about it, probably it will be a part in a book about SOE in Sweden.
But he got a very very hard prison sentence from a pro-German judges, eight years in prison and he didn't even get a chance to try to blow up cranes in a harbour exporting iron ore to Germany, only planning it. A disgrace for us.

Yes I realise Elsa was 51. But why did they wait 12 years???
Perhaps I will get an answer from a file at National Archives, which they kindly declassified for us.

Unfortunately we have no phpto of Elsa yet, but we are working on it.

Images resized as they were distorting thread.
