HI Mk2
The confusionb is I'd say to do with our rolls and UK's census
the name shows in the ancestry index, but is the same info as the person named above..to do with farmer
eg
Source   1896 Electoral Roll
Electorate   Waikato
Record Number   908
Surname   FOXALL
Given Names   Secombe
Place of Residence   Whatawhata
Occupation   Farmer
Nature of Qualification   Freehold
Comments   Farm at Pukete
Data Sourced From   1881, 1893 & 1896 Electoral Roll Search v2.3

No one else of same name in electorate..also only Foxall in the roll for 1881-1896 disc.
Although I see from the NZSG index other names appear

Bye

Hi Woody

Seems that this Seacombe FOXALL was something of a businessman and property owner, and had been resident in New Zealand for quite a number of years.

I've only had a quick look at PapersPast, but here are a few snippets.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/

His name first appears in a list of unclaimed letters for the quarter ending 31 December 1861, held at the Auckland Post Office.

"Daily Southern Cross" - 10 January 1862 - page 2 / column 6

FOXALL - Sceacome [sic]

All items from "Daily Southern Cross"

- 18 April 1865 - page 7/ col. 1

FOXALL - Seacombe -- Waikato, freehold, allotment 4,
Freehold in Market Street, part of McLEAN's property, Pokeno :   Attested by Henry VERNON

[This listing is carried over from another page and I didn't look for the heading -- probably has to do with property qualification for voting rights ?  ]

-  21 December 1866 - Cjje glatij etc ...

"The following is the schedule of assessment of the District of Wairoa*, for the year commencing, 6 November , 1866.

FOXALL - Seccombe [sic]
Value of property - L 60 (60 pounds)
Amount of rate - 5 shillings "

[Note: * This is Wairoa district near Auckland - not to be confused with another of same name in North Island.]

  from  "Daily Southern Cross"

- 13 May 1874 -- page 7 / column 5

# 293 :

FOXALL - Seacombe

Alma Place, Freeman's Bay*, freehold
Farm at Helensville near Henderson's Creek - no freehold
Objected to by John LAMB, an elector :

[* These places are in / near to, Auckland. ]

(Note:  Probably an objection raised to FOXALL remaining on elector's roll ?   Sorry I haven't checked heading of article which was in a previous column.)

- 17 June 1870 -- Page 5 / column 1

Tenders:   Messrs FOXALL and BAILY (BAILEY), Freeman's Bay,  - in a list of unsuccesful tenderers.

[Possibly same Mr. FOXALL given the address ?]

Later newspaper references in the 'Waikato Times" show a sawmilling business, FAWKES & FOXALL at or near Whatawhata on the Hamilton Road.

Secombe
[sic] FOXALL
(and a William FAWKES) appear on a voter's list for Newcastle Riding in Waipa County.
