Thank you for your very fast reply - can I now assume that unless I order a death certificate I am unlikely to find out any other information?

I know his parents - they were Benjamin Bullock & his wife Mary (nee Dixon).  I know he was born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England.  He was sent away to boarding school, and then went to Australia - but I don't know when.  I can't find him in England in 1901. He was certainly in Sydney in 1906 and in Queensland (Maranoa) in 1913.

In the index of the "Queensland Police Gazette" of 1912 his name appears in the index.....but I don't have access to the item (page 564).

Hi Kathy,

References to Sydney:

May need someone to check the electoral rolls to narrow things down.  The "C" on the registration indicates "country" area of Queensland.

Cheers,

Janet.

Thank you Janet - but this is where I got My info from re. his time in Sydney.....the links on here are really good!

AND Gerry!  wow...that is just what I needed.  No sign of a wife and family anywhere though.....

His father died in 1905 and left him a whole load of stuff in his will - the executors had 7 years to try to find him in Australia (where he was last heard of)....or his two sisters were to share the estate.  Trying to find out if he ever got his share....

Hi Kathy,

Was he born in 1878?  This would have made him 59 when he died, not 67.

Births
Sep Quarter 1878
BULLOCK,    Frederick Dixon
Dewsbury
9b   762

There was a Fred. D. BULLOCK arriving as crew (ordinary seaman) on the Star of New Zealand into Sydney via Melbourne on 13 May 1898. He was British and aged 20.  Crew list on the Mariners site has not yet been completed for this ship, but should be available soon.

Can't find him on any rolls after 1922 and in 1922 there were 20 on the roll for Oxford Downs including Frederick but no Mrs Bullock.

From his death registration it appears that the informant didn't know much about Frederick and probably had a guess at his age and his parents were unknown, my theory is that Frederick was very likely not married.
