Marriage & Death in South Africa
« on: Thursday 21 July 11 23:11 BST (UK) »
My Great Uncle emigrated to Cape Town circa 1956.  He died out there too, but I can't find any entries for their Marriage (she has also passed away) or their deaths.  I wonder if anyone could help please?  Is there a BMD site for Cape Town ?

If not, I wonder would someone be so kind to check an entry for me please?

Alfred George Evans married Florence McDonald (in SA) ...

Many Thanks

There is:

Ancestry24.com - this has a number of SA records and Entries from recent Government Gazettes

If he died before about 1980 his death notice may be in the archives - you search their indexes at

Thanks Gillian.  I have tried that link a few times and can't seem to get it to load correctly.  SO annoying when you want to find something quickly :)  Thanks for the suggestion though - I will keep trying.

can I suggest  you look at this page
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,26246.0.html
and this page allows you to get a copy of docs from SA
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,211554.20.html
a lot of reading but well worth while!
I just went through the process of getting a Death Notice from SA.
it gives more information that a death certificate, from that information I looked up the SA phone book and searched for similar names to the names I found on the Death Notice in the areas I knew that my rellies came from.
I sent of 8 letters and got a reply from my great aunts grandson!
so it works!
regards and good luck

He had 3 children of a marriage in South Africa ,their(Florence and George Evans) children's names : David ( he died )Brian and Bronwyn(my older half sister) .My dad also said he had a son Graham ,I tried looking up "Graham Evans" ,but no luck - he was born in the u.k and I never had the honour of meeting him - however I hope we will soon .I am the youngest of his children ,my mom and dad where never married .For some strange reason they also named me " Bronwyn " .
