Carol, I live far far away in Australia, as much as I'd love a visit, it's not on the immediate agenda! I have a few credits re 1837 was just put off by the amount of years I'll have to look at? My mum has the service papers, as she says he 's put his next of kin as his parents, George James MASKELL & Annie Eliza MASKELL. I found the 1901 census with him on Ancestry at 12 Basing St, Camberwell. He was transcribed correctly as MASKELL, it's just in the Army he decided he was a HUDSON (mother's maiden name)!
Regards, Stella
