Handwriting help please - completed with thanks
« on: Sunday 24 July 11 09:21 BST (UK) »
I have just found a marriage entry on one of the websites for a Latitia Eyre though spelt Lauretta, in Leeds in 1874 to an Abraham Smith. Her father's name looks like William Kenk, though I'm not sure. Could anyone help please. Lottee

Thanks for your input. I did think the K was an R until I saw another R in the document. Looking closely at the e in the surname it looks different to the e in soldier. Would it help to have the whole document?

I don't think you need to worry about the e

Also if you look at the formation of the t in millwright written above, it is very similar to the last letter in the surname

Dear all

Thank you for your help. With your help I think I may have found William. I have found an 1841 census with a William Kent, and I think his occupation looks like army but cannot be sure. His daughter Letiticia was born in Ireland however married in yorkshire to a Lincolnshire man. I have attached a screen shot of the census.

Regards

Lottee

If i read that correctly it says Army pr.(pensioner) This should mean his pension record will be available at the National Archive.

I found it this morning! Thanks to everyone's help, I traced Letitia's marital history and her 1st husband/children, back to William Kent and his father, also found him in 2 census, found William's baptism and parents name, and as I mentioned his military records. Still haven't found Letitia's birth and going by William's history, he had been discharged from service due to injury a couple of years prior to her possible birth, so not sure why she is listed born in Ireland, so a bit more work to do yet.  Also a bit more evidence that I may have the correct person is she is listed as a soldiers daughter in 1851

Really chuffed so thank you everyone
