Trying to find my long lost grandmothers grave?
« on: Thursday 28 July 11 23:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Is there a kind person out there who can help me find the long lost burial place of my Grandmother who died somewhere in the "April-May-June Quarter 1924. Ashton (Manchester) 8d page 642, age 53". My grandmothers name was " Elizabeth Maria Stuart (nee' Inchcomb'e' ), she was born at Woolwich Kent/London on the 10th May 1871.
Her husband,my grandfather Joseph Stuart is buried in Droylsden Cemetery in Manchester in 1936,but can't find out were my grandmother is buried??  ??? Its seems strange why we can't find her!  Is there any National
Burial Register that may hold were she is buried?? or something else that may help me find her!!
Is there any one who can help me Please!

                                Thank You

Hi StHelena,
I had a look on burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk but couldnt find her. There is another site but i can find it.I'm sure someone will post it. I would try and find out who holds the records for droylsden cemetery and get them to do a grave for you as he may be in the same grave as your grandad or buried in another grave within the cemetery.

Hi there,

you may already have this, but here is the search page for Droylsden and other local cemeteries:

http://public.tameside.gov.uk/candc/regenq.asp

however I don't think they have all the records searchable online, so you might need to contact Tameside and ask for a search as feeline suggests.

Here's the one for Oldham district, as its next door to Ashton:
http://www.oldham.gov.uk/births_marriages_and_deaths/bereavement-services/bacas_iframe.htm

good luck

Have you tried getting in touch with the Droylesdon cemetery?  They have records of all who is buried there.  I have found cemetery superintendent's very helpful; although I haven't had recourse to use this particular cemetery.

Looking at the Tameside website it seems to indicate Joseph was buried in a paupers grave, which in turn would indicate that Elizabeth a few years earlier would be a public grave and not the same grave as Joseph.

The grave he is buried in was only put on the bacas system "Thursday 31 March 2011" so whether someone in the office is slowly inputting the registers or someone else has asked about a person in that grave to have the data put online as a matter of course I don't know.

With the exception of Manchester Council most council cemetery bacas systems only updated with old burials if a grave is reopened.

Do what is suggested email them, having a true date of death would have been better but no harm in trying.

If you do find she is in any Oldham council cemetery please PM me first.
