this might help

Jane Smith married George Lowther on the 2 Nov 1863
at Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England
Jane's father John Smith
George's father John Lowther

I am just wondering how do you know he is a wagon man and do you have any other info that could help narrow it down ???

Gladys already has the Lowther/Smith marriage certificate, on which it states Jane's father was a waggonman. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,379676.msg2527397.html#msg2527397

Hi Gladys  :)
For place-names in County Durham you ought to bookmark this http://nd.durham.gov.uk/recordoffice/dro.nsf/vwebplaces  ;)
It shows West Rainton was in Houghton le Spring parish until 1838, and a parish in its own right after that.

 Gladys,

I notice that Joseph Taylor, aged 10 yrs, born Blaydon , on the 1871 in Garden Row, in Dudley, is very likely to be the child of Thomas Jude and Margaret Jude, nee Tiplady.

Newly married Thomas and Margaret with 4 month old Joseph are on 1861 census in Blaydon (3808-115-9) in the household of Joseph and Ann Jude, Thomas's parents.

Birth of a Joseph Jude was registered in Gateshead Reg district in Dec Qtr of 1860. ( Blaydon lay within jurisdiction of Gateshead RD.)

Dorothy Jude, also born Blaydon marries Alexander Johnson , Tynemouth RD Dec Qtr 1880.  Newly married Alexander and Dorothy are on 1881 in Wood Cottages, Annitsford ( 5087-15-23)

Hello Jackie, i was just about to tell you that his first wife was margaret Jude alias Tiplady and that Adam was a coal miner but you have found them, you are a genius,  i am trying to figure it out who Jane married before Adam and Jane`s father was John Smith a waggon man.  Its all mind boggling but i will get there in the end with help.   I think Jane could have married a George Lowther.  I am trying to add which children belong to who on my tree ;D   Thanks a lot Jackie.  Regards Gladys   .

Hello JenB

Thank you for bring other post to my attention :)

I was under the impression that Gladys was still to confirm that Jane was married previously as she had written in above quote

" I think Jane could have married a George Lowther. "

Thank you again

Gladys, I hope you are keeping well. I have not been back to "roots" ( Blyth) for a while.

Do you have both the certs for the marriages of Jane to a Lowther and to Adam Taylor ?

Hi Michael,  aye, i am keeping well.  i do have the marriages but they are what i wrote down off parish registers and its like looking for a needle in a haystack for them as i just put familys any where as am not very tidy but will look them up on parish registers at some time and get back to you.  Regards Gladys.
