Ancestor from Madeira

A surprise turn in helping my friend with his family tree has found me looking for how I could perhaps find out more information about a family who lived for a time on Madeira (presumably under Portuguese rule).

I would be particularly interested in the possibility of finding a baptism record for a Janetta Scott (c.1740) or information on her merchant father's life, John Scott in the years before or after this.

I've seen a few references on-line regarding Janetta's later life but would be more interested in its early beginnings if anyone can point me in the right direction.
