North Hall, Markinch

This is probably an easy question for those that know. Is North Hall a town or an area in Markinch. Why i ask is that my great grandfather William Christie lived there back in the 1840's

No one knows why it's called North Hall, it's a very important area, historically. It's an area of Markinch and is now known as North Hall Road.

Attached is a pic of the house that "family story" said belonged to the Christie family, William Christie and further it is thought that he married for a second time and the house was left to his second family but we have no details to support this.
Also just how grand was it to be named “Hall” – or was that the name of the place where the “unnamed” house stood? Also, does this place still stand??? If anyone can recognise the pic and add to our limited knowlege we would be very appreciative.

Hi. I've asked around the people of Markinch and some suggestions have been made, but upon checking them by visiting sites we're still none-the-wiser. However, someone checked the 1841 and 1851 census for the area and there's only one William Christie; an agricultural labourer living at Balgonie Bleachfield, which isn't in the town of Markinch itself, but used to make up part of Coaltown of Balgonie (which was in Markinch parish).

Furthermore, the current theory as to why Northhall is called Northhall is that there used to be a meeting hall back in medieval times on top of the hill that is now Northhall Cemetery, so I think we can disregard your picture as being the source of the name.

As far as I can make out, if that picture is indeed of a house in Markinch, it's probably not there anymore.

Can you give me any further information about William Christie? Date of birth, death, census records etc?

What i have of William Christie is that he was son of Alexander b about 1811 and Elizabeth Campbell and they married 1836 Markinch, Fife, Scotland. They had 7 children, William, Elizabeth, Euphemia, May, Agnes, John & Catherine.
William b 1846 Markinch, Fife, Scotland married 1871 Markinch, Helen Hamilton b 1847 daughter of John & Helen Duncan.
William & Helen had 6 children, Alexander, Helen, John, Elizabeth, Harriet and William ,
