I am a little confused, as there is a Winfred Byrne and a Philomena Byrne both married to Andrew Canna in the district of Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, at about the same time. The same person, or did one die and the other sister married Andrew.
Is it a case of sending off for the marriage certificates

where did you see the references to a Winfred Byrne marriage ?

I dont see any marriage cross match to Andrew with any other Byrnes on the BMD Index.

Andrew's marriage seems to be indexed twice - once as Canagh and also as Canna (both show the same references).

The information came from the Family Search Indexes and shows up on the birth of some the children.

I have the birth certificate for Rosanna Canna, born Saturday 14th April 1883 in the Parish of Rathdown. Parents Andrew Canna and Philomena Byrne.

I dont see any other Andrew Canna/Canagh marriages around the right time, so maybe it was another name that Philomena used ?

Do the names of the children listed with mother Winifred ring any bells ?

  Elizabeth 1872
  Bridget 1874
  Christopher 1876
  Esther 1880

I think this could be the Christopher mentioned above :

  Canna household - Kilpedder town - 1901

  Canna household - Kilpedder town - 1911

based on the names of the children I'd say a connection is very likely.

Thanks again.

I feel very sure that Rosanna Canna and Elizabeth Canna are sisters. When Rosanna marries Richard Matthews, she moves with her new husband to Hudson's Terrace, Bray (1911 census) where Elizabeth Dalton (nee Canna had live in 1901).

Hi Shane

I did go through the 1901 and 1911 census records.

I think I just need to send away for some church records so to be 100% sure they are all connected.

Start with the Philomena/Andrew one, as that is the info you have. If it gives him as a widower, then there might be a reason to get the second one.  Which marriage came first, Philomena or Winnifred? PM

By process of elimination the parents of Andrew Canagh would seem to be Andrew Canagh and Elizabeth.
Rootsireland.ie shows:- Andrew Kanna and Elizabeth Brady married in Glendalough (RC) in 1843.
With these parents, there was an Andrew Canna baptised in Glendalough (RC) in 1849. Other children baptised in Glendalough (RC) with mothers surname are:

Thomas        1844
Margaret      1846
James           1849
Patrick          1852

Children baptised with only mothers forename in Glendalough are as follows:

Ambrose       1844
Bridget          1846
James           1851
Christopher   1842 ?
Andrew          1849

William           1862   Rathdrum (RC)

It would seem that there may be three sets of twins if these records are correct and match your Canna Family.

As shown earlier by Shane, Thomas Canagh married to Bridget Kearns in  Kilquade (RC) 1868 has same parents as Andrew.
Familysearch.org and Rootsireland.ie show their children as follows:

Christopher     1869
William             1870
Mary Jane        1873
Eliza                 1875
James              1879
Bridget             1883     All baptised in Kilquade (RC)

Another brother of Andrews is Patrick married to Catherine Grogan in Kilquade (RC) IN 1868 GRO INDEX VOL. 12, PG. 781.
Patricks parents as above.
Children for this couple:-
Ambroise        1868
Catherine        1872
Christopher     1876
Patrick             1879     All baptised in Kilquade (RC).

As suggested by Shane and PM, start with the Marriage Cert and perhaps the Parish Record for Andrew and Philomena. Have a look at these enteries and hopefully they match your Canna Family.
