1891 Census for ALLGOOD family at Woodhurst, nr. St Ives
« on: Monday 02 May 05 20:19 BST (UK) »
Is there some kind person out there who could look up the existence of the ALLGOOD family in the 1891 Census.
In 1881 they were at Pells Hole, Woodhurst, near St. Ives, and the family members were:
James Allgood Head aged 42 b. Knapwell Ag. Lab
Annie Allgood Wife aged 37 b. Elsworth, Cambs
plus children: George, aged 19; William aged 16; James, aged 13; Herbert, aged 7; Frederick, aged 5; and Rosetta, aged 2.  Rosetta was born in Woodhurst, but all her brothers in Knapwell, Cambs.
Thanks for any help,
Best wishes,
keith

Hi, Bekahsgran and Willow,
That's all wonderful new information on the family.    Thank you both so much for all that!  Shedding sons to the big wide world, and the tragic occasion of James's wife Annie dying in childbirth and then a re-marriage.  Getting greedy now (even though I've just had my evening meal while you were both poring over the 1891 census), but is there still any sign of James Allgood, now presumably 57+ years old, with a flourishing second family, still in the same sort of location in the 1901 Census?
And the other thing is, does anyone have any kind of local knowledge to tell me what exactly "Pell's Hole" was - maybe some kind hollow in the landscape, perhaps...?

Hi Keith
Just had a look for a death for Harriett but there isn't one listed, maybe hasn't been transcribed yet!

Hi again, Bekahsgran,
Well done!  That surely has to be him, and it really never ceases to amaze me on this website how one can so quickly follow a family through each decade, with all its little tragedies and changes of situation and location.  Sorry to disrupt your Monday (feels like a Sunday, doesn't it?) evening.
I think I will be paying Knapwell and all those little places around St Ives a visit very shortly...
Very best wishes,
keith

Hi
You are very welcome, and you haven't disrupted my evening, it was rather boring anyway!
You are correct though, it is amazing how with a little help you can follow these families. Thats the 'kick' of it though, isn't it?
Hope you've had a good bank holiday, weathers been glorious here in Norfolk, how about where you are?
Best Wishes
Anne
