Crystal Ball needed for Surrey, please!!
« on: Monday 02 May 05 23:23 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

I think I am just at the end of my tether!!  I have had this brick wall for over 18 months and am now at a loss as to how to knock it down.   ???

My earliest census for them is 1871.

Cottage, Limpsfield Heath, Limpsfield, Surrey.

Thomas Ware, Head, Gardener, 36 yrs, b. Tandridge, Surrey,
Mary Ware, Wife, 41 yrs (should be 46 yrs), b. Westerham, Kent.
Alfred Ware, Son, 7 yrs, b. Reigate, Surrey.
Emily Ware, Daur., 5 yrs, b. Sutton, Surrey.
Alice Ware, Daur., 3 yrs, b. Peckham, Surrey.

Thomas and Mary Elizabeth nee Boyes, were married on 28th July 1863 at, The parish Church, in St John's parish, District St Olave, Southwark, Surrey.  Thomas's father was James Ware a Laborer.  Mary's father was Joseph Boyes a Laborer. Residence at time given as St John's.

The address on Alice Ware's birth cert was, 1 George Street, Albert Road, Peckham, Surrey.  Thomas's Occupation at that time was, Gentleman's Gardener.

I have no clues as to who Thomas's mother was, their last known address as at 1881 was Peters Street, Bradninch Devon but, Thomas was deceased by then.

So Thomas's estimated birth year would be 1836.  Does anyone have Parish records in these areas?  In the 1861 census Thomas would have been 26 yrs, in the 1851 census he would have been 16 yrs, but he may not have been living with his father James!!  The only real lead I have is that he was a gardener, would he have served his time as such?

I think I need a time machine rather than a crystal ball!!

I would be over the moon if someone could shed some light on this.   ;D

Thanks for reading this anyway.

Hi Casalguidi

That looks goooood to me!!!  I can feel the brick crumbling.  Wow thanks!  That was quick.

You are an angel.  I can now look for a marriage of James and Elizabeth ? and see what tallys.

Big, Big, Hug.  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Casalguidi

Well I have come up with a problem!  ???

I woke this morning thinking, I do now and again, that Thomas's father was listed on his marriage cert.  He did not have "deceased noted" like I have found on others, I now think it may not be my Grt, Grt Grandfather.  It may just be though a cousin, as I have found in most of my research that siblings named their children alike.  Am I making much sense?

I will keep the info in with my stuff but, I think I need to still search for another Thomas.

Thanks for your time on this one.

I have a marriage certificate where I am pretty sure the father was deceased at the time of the marriage (mother was listed as a widow on an earlier census) but there is no mention of this on the certificate - I suspect it depended on who was giving the information and what the registrar could be bothered to write down.

Hi ggrocott

Yes you just may be right.  I am now 99% sure it is the right info.  I know things weren't always correct and mistakes happen as well as false info passed on all be it innocent.

I have decided to go with it but, at the same time still look around, if you know what I mean!!

Thanks for your input on this problem.

Regards
