Canadian Don Fennah
« on: Tuesday 09 August 11 18:03 BST (UK) »
Hello
Can someone help me to find when a Susan Matilda Fennah nee Herring emigrated to Canada .I have just found on CWGC a record showing she had a son Donald Clement Fennah age unknown who flew with the Canadian Airforce and was killed 10th April 1943 at Malta. I am sure that this is the Susan I am looking for. Details of his mother are given as Susan M Fennah Cobalt, Ontario.
Susan Herring b1883 was married in Aston 1903 to a Alfred Fennah b1882. I am aware of a son b1903 Alfred Fennah, but from there she disappeared.
Hope you can help.
Henery ??? ???

You can order the complete military file or a genealogy package from Library and Archives Canada at
www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/index-e.html
go to
Second World War Service Files
put in
Donald Clement Fennah
b. 16 Feb 1920
d. 10 apr 1943
Service # J10989
Ref RG24
Volume 27493
How to Consult a file or Order a Copy
all the info that you need to order the file is there

www.canada411.ca
has only 1 surname Fennah listed for Ontario so worth following up on

http://ocfa.islandnet.com
under search type Fennah
only brings up 6 names
Alfred
Donald C
Irene Neta
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Temiskaming, Bucke Township

http://canadianheadstones.com/on/view.php?id=125300
FENNAH
in loving memory of
Alfred Fennah
died July 23, 1938
in his 55th year

J10989 F/O
Donald C. Fennah
Apr 19, 1943

http://canadianheadstones.com/on/view.php?id=75443
FENNAH
Jean MacPherson
1908-1976
Beloved Wife of
Alfred W. Fennah
1903-1989

Cobalt War Veterans + Cemetery, Temiskaming Co., Ontario

There is a headstone for Irene Neta as well transcribed as Fennar but it looks like Fennah

I didn't find anything on the passenger lists or census so I would look for a birth for Donald C. in England and perhaps some other children to try and narrow down the immigration date. It is possible that Susan remarried.

With the information above perhaps you could contact the public library and they may have more information for you.

The child Irene belonged to the other two names Harry & Nellie. Perhaps Harry was another son who served WW2 as his entry is marked Fennah Harry, Pte.

Marriages June Q. 1920  Fennah, Harry  & Green, Nellie / Aston vol. 6d  p. 1334
so he came sometime after 1920

From these memories of childhood from residents of Cobalt, asked in 1972, "Harry Fennah was a miner"

but also under question 35,What means of transportation were available when you arrived?
" Cars, trains. I remember them taking out the street cars. Alf Fennah went
over the new Ferguson Highway. His car sank in t1 highway and it never was recovered. It was 15 miles south of Martin River. The Highway Dep't of the Provincial government gave him a new car."

Hi J.J.
Thanks for that information it makes sense. The Fennah's were closely linked with the Green family thro a Susan Fennah nee Herring whose brother wed a Emma Green and emigrated to Canada.
Your input is much appreciated.

Fennah, Harry
Fennah, Harry, Pte
Fennah, Nellie
Mt. Hamilton Cemetery, Wentworth County, Hamilton Township
Ref: HM - 315

Harry and Harry, Pte may be 2 separate people. You may be able to contact the cemetery for a transcription that may give more info.

Public libraries sometimes have information from old newspapers, etc. and usually have a contact section or "Ask a Librarian" section.

To ask more about the interred, once you have the field reference code from the site, you can write for more information, I think it is 5.00 per lookup, but they will let you know...Your codes are HM- and  TMK-
