18th regiment of the foot
« on: Tuesday 09 August 11 22:06 BST (UK) »
for those who were looking for the regiment, i have found the 18th in illinois, usa at fort de chartres
around 1765.  my question is since the literature states that the 42ed royal highland regement took possession of the fort, is the 18th one and the same as the 42ed in 1765-1771?

 BruceL,
thankyou for the information .
do you think it would be possible for the same man to have joined each of those regiments?
i am going to do some research on the theater of each . the person i am refering to was born in1774,paisley.
again, thanks

Hi

I am not certain but I don't see any reason why he couldn't transfer from one to the other

Perhaps if you posted your question on the Armed forces board you will get the people who know the answer, and you may get some amazing replies.

Hi Rosemary

According to my records the 18th did not arrive in Illinois until 1767.
